The Physiotherapy Department at Austin Health operates over a number of locations at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.

Our orthopaedic outpatient services are located on Level 3 of the Austin Hospital Tower.

Cardiac rehabilitation and cardiac failure rehabilitation classes run in Physiotherapy Administration (the old Physiotherapy Department), Level 3 of the Harold Stokes Building (behind Clinical Pathology).

If you arrive by car and park in the Austin Hospital Tower car park (charges apply) take the lift in the car park to level 3 and walk straight ahead into the waiting room. This car park can be entered from Studley Road or Burgundy Street.

If you arrive by train, you can walk through the car park to the lifts.

If you arrive via the pedestrian bridge on Burgundy Street enter the hospital at the Harold Stokes building entrance, walk forward and then left and walk through the Lance Townsend building into the Austin Tower. Keep walking until you see the glass atrium, turn left and then left again into the physiotherapy outpatient department.

Referrals

Patients can be referred into the service by their GP or specialist doctor.
You will require a written referral.
When you receive your referral post it or fax it to us.
The outpatient physiotherapy service provides a limited number of treatment sessions, usually 8 to 12, to help you manage your condition.
These sessions are also used to teach exercise and other self-management strategies.
Treatment sessions are provided free of charge to health care cardholders and pensioners.
Others are charged an administrative fee of $8 which is to be paid at the time of treatment.
Clients of the Department of Veteran Affairs, Transport Accident Commission and the Victorian WorkCover Authority are welcome.

Appointments

You may have to wait for your first appointment, as there is a high demand for appointments.
Your appointment time is the actual time that you can expect to be seen by the Physiotherapist.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late your appointment may need to be changed to another date.
If you are waiting for more than 10 minutes past your appointment time please check with the receptionist.
If you need to cancel your appointment 48 hours notice should be given where possible.
If you do not cancel your appointment other patients miss out on treatment.
If you miss more than one appointment you may be discharged from the service.
