The Department has a long-established commitment to clinical and physiological research dating back to the 1960s. By the late 1990s our research activities had expanded to such an extent that a coordinating body was required to oversee and further develop these functions. The Institute for Breathing & Sleep (IBAS) was established in 2000 as an independent, not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote, facilitate and coordinate research, education and public advocacy in respiratory and sleep health. IBAS continues to actively pursue this mission with funding derived from a variety of sources including commonwealth, state, private and philanthropic organizations.
Further details regarding our research activities can be found on the IBAS website
