BMJ and JAMA have been at the forefront of publishing and supporting EBM practices. In a recent collaboration they have released a series of videos covering the evolution of EBM practices including commentary on how medicine has been influenced by applying clinical evidence. Interviews with EBM campaigners Muir Gray, Iain Chalmers, & David Sackett can be seen.

A Cochrane intervention review - based on 34 Randomized Control Trials (RCT) including 6890 person-operations - concluded that percutaneous exposure incidents can be reduced if surgeons and surgical staff wore double gloves.

An Australian study from the Freemasons Foundation Centre for Men's Health at the University of Adelaide indicated RNAs alone was a better predictor of a cancer diagnosis via biopsy than the PSA test.  Lead author Dr Selth said "We also found that the one specific microRNA, miR-200b, could distinguish between men with low grade and higher grade tumours. This is important because, as a potential prognostic tool, it will help to indicate the urgency and type of treatment required."

Screening aims to identify cancers at an early and treatable stage - tests reviewed include the digital rectal examination (DRE), the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS). Authors conclude overdiagnosis and overtreatment are common and are associated with treatment-related harms that need to be communicated to patients.
