Australians are smoking less, drinking less, eating better and exercising more according to the latest Roy Morgan Research release 10 July 2014. So where are our health risks?

This special spotlight on Australia's health reveals the latest trends affecting our health:

"Knowledge about the essential role of this protein in blood development may help us to understand the progress of disease where blood cell development is disrupted, such as MDS" said Dr Walkley. "It also may be important in understanding the response of blood cells to drugs such as chemotherapy."

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC), in collaboration with the National Mental Health Commission, have just released the findings from their scoping study on the implementation of the National Standards for Mental Health Services, and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards in mental health services.

The purpose of this study was to identify: the current level of uptake of the standards in the public, private and community sectors, and what were the enablers, barriers and challenges in implementing the standards. The information gathered in this project is also intended to help health care workers to identify any safety and quality gaps in the standards.
