Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters the 2024 Christmas Appeal was a resounding success.

Donors to the appeal helped raise more than $130,000, which will go directly towards creating a patient lounge and outdoor retreat in the Austin Hospital's Spinal Ward, 3 North.

Evidence shows exposure to green spaces can lead to improved mental health and faster recovery for patients. Our new patient lounge and outdoor retreat will enhance recovery and overall wellbeing, providing spaces to connect with loved ones and to nature. This is especially important for patients who stay for long periods of time.

Spinal patient Corey Hogan (with his mum Shelley) appeared in the Christmas Appeal. He spent almost eight months at Austin Health recovering last year.

A farmer from southern New South Wales, Corey was only 22 when an accident left him quadriplegic. One moment he was having fun with friends, and the next he was on the ground and unable to move.

Corey has since faced a long journey. In the hospital for months, he transitioned from intensive care to our acute Spinal Ward, and then into our rehabilitation facility.

He has now returned home to his family farm, and is doing well transitioning back into community and work life.

The funds raised by the Christmas Appeal will make a real difference for patients like Corey. We are so grateful for every donation, big or small.
