We are pleased to announce that we have successfully utilised much of the $190,000 raised for the 2023 Christmas Appeal to bring your vision of a child-friendly emergency department to life, providing a sense of calm during a crisis.

Your generous contributions have enabled our Paediatric Emergency Department to achieve the following: 

• A more engaging and comforting space: We have introduced playful curtains, dimmable lights, and vibrant imagery to create a warm, inviting environment. The space, filled with movement and light, aims to lift the spirits of young patients and reduce anxiety during their visit. 
• Digital entertainment: An interactive video projection wall in the waiting room provides an engaging distraction for children while they wait for care. 
• Dedicated quiet spaces: Recognising the unique needs of neurodiverse children, we have created quiet, private spaces with dimmable lighting to provide a calming environment away from the hustle and bustle of the emergency department. 
• Advanced medical equipment: We have acquired advanced ultrasound probes to locate tiny veins with ease, and controlled LED lighting to make procedures more comfortable for children. 

We are deeply grateful for the incredible support and contributions from our community. Your commitment has made this campaign a remarkable success, and we are excited about the positive impact these enhancements will have on young patients and their families. 

Staff have already noticed the positive impact of these modifications, says Jess Quattrocchi, ED Nurse.  

“I was so blown away by the amount raised after not knowing what to expect. So much hard work went into this and we are extremely grateful for the generosity of the community; this would never be possible without them,” says Jess. 

Jess adds: “It is so exciting to start to see the funds that were raised now put to good use to improve the experience for paediatric emergency department patients."
