Meet Nimesh Oli, one of our Food Services Supervisors.
Nimesh was born in Nepal and grew up enjoying its majesty landscapes and culture, pristine air, spectacular backdrop of snowy peaks, serene lakes and fiery rivers.
"A beautiful paradise on earth. Being in nature has always been a passion and interest of mine", he says.
Nimesh commenced working in the Food Services team in 2016.
“Besides being a great team and working environment, the one thing I enjoy and admire deeply about working here is seeing just how diverse our workforce is. It is fantastic to be part of Austin Health where we all come together from different backgrounds, cultures and abilities. But ultimately, we are all here for the same purpose; to provide exceptional patient care. I love and admire the unity within this diversity”, he says.
Tihar is celebrated each year in the month of November and is the second most celebrated festival in Nepal. This year it was celebrated on 15 November. This festival is also known by different names, in India it’s called Diwali.
"The story behind these celebrations varies from region to region but the soul of the festival remains the same: to rejoice in the inner light and understand the underlying reality of all things. It's the celebration of triumph of good over evil.
“The festivals are celebrated with much grandeur for five days of which the first three days are an ode to the creatures that share the earth with us: from crows to cows, to our canine best friends with worship, yummy treats and blessings. The fourth day we worship goddess Laxmi, for wealth and prosperity and the fifth day is the celebration of love between brothers and sisters with blessing, treats and worship. It is celebrated by all people in Nepal regardless of faith. The whole country is lit up with lights and colours. I encourage everyone to celebrate Tihar everyday of our lives, in hope of defeating separateness, greed and hatred and living with unity, love and peace”, Nimesh explains.
Happy Tihar to all those who marked this special day this year.
