About our program
The Postgraduate Psychiatry Training Program at Austin Health provides:
- convenient access to prominent academics

Our program offers 45 to 50 junior medical positions including:
- first year psychiatry training positions
- advanced certificate training positions
- part time training positions.
What we offer
A comprehensive training program
- A diverse range of rotations, particularly in child and youth, perinatal, neuropsychiatry, consultation-liaison and post trauma recovery psychiatry.
- Access to unique statewide services including the Psychological Trauma Recovery Service, Brain Disorders Program and Child Inpatient Unit, as well as specialist statewide liaison roles.
- Renowned advanced training programs in child and adolescent and consultation-liaison psychiatry, with access to others.
- A comprehensive training program within co-located campuses.
A focus on research and education
- Direct access to some of Victoria’s prominent academics, with an office of the University of Melbourne’s Department of Psychiatry on site supporting research and teaching.
- Weekly education program for registrars, including grand rounds, psychotherapy and research support, leadership and management.
- Education is integrated into registrar roles and supported by senior medical staff.
- Regular Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) exam preparation tutorials.

How to apply
Stage 1 registrar recruitment is managed via RANZCP match and Victorian Psychiatry Training Committee (VPTC) and approval occurs from May to July each year.

Recruitment for all accredited and non-accredited registrar positions occurs from May to July and November to January.
