Coming to hospital

Your hospital room

If you are staying in hospital overnight (or longer), your room will be assigned based on your medical needs and care requirements.

Shared rooms

Our wards mainly have shared rooms. We do our best to ensure all patients feel comfortable and respected. Whenever possible, we aim to place patients of the same gender together. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

If you have any concerns or specific needs regarding your room arrangement, please do not hesitate to let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Patient communication board

A patient bedside communication board will be located near your bed. You can use this board to write questions for your team, ask your nurse to note the daily plan, and share your goals for your care so we understand what matters to you.

Your belongings

Your hospital room will have a wardrobe and a drawer for you to store your things. There’s also a locked drawer for medications, which can only be accessed by medical staff.

It's best to leave valuables, including money and jewellery, at home during your hospital stay. If you have brought something valuable to hospital, send it home with a family member or friend.

Bathrooms

All hospital bathrooms have a basin, toilet with grab rails and a level access shower with grab rails and hand-held shower head. Bathrooms are fitted with emergency call bells.

Additional equipment such as a shower chair can be provided as required. Generally bathrooms are shared between patients and cleaned frequently.

Beds

Different bed lengths and widths are available to meet the needs of people with varying body sizes.

Accessibility

Let us know if you have any adjustments required to make the room accessible during your stay.  You may like to let us know if you use assistive products, require support to eat meals, shower or self-care, need a carer to stay overnight or have communication or behavioural support needs.

Our Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) program can assist our inpatient teams with navigating these adjustments. If you require support, reach out to the DLO team.
